Updated: Van Scrappage Scheme Extension for Volkswagen

The scheme now includes eight-year-old vans. A customer with a van registered before 28 February 2002 can scrap the vehicle and use it to purchase a new car or van. Only cars registered before 29 February 2000 can be scrapped to buy a new car or a van.

The scrappage scheme will end in February 2010 or when the government’s funding runs out, whichever comes first.

The scrapped vehicle

The vehicle to be scrapped must:

  • Be a car or small van that does not exceed 3.5 tonnes
  • Be registered in the United Kingdom on or before 29 February 2000 (cars) or 28 February 2002 (vans) (vehicle categories M1 and N1 respectively).
  • Have been registered to the owner for 12 continuous calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
  • Have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
  • Have a current MOT test certificate before the date of order for the new vehicle (or one that has expired no earlier than 14 days before the time of order)
  • Have a current tax disc before the date of order for the new vehicle (or that has expired no earlier than 14 days before the time of order)
  • Be insured when the order for the new vehicle is placed

The new vehicle
The new vehicle must be:
o A car or small van that does not exceed 3.5 tonnes
o Declared new at first registration in the UK and have no former keepers
o A UK-specification vehicle
o First registered to the same registered keeper as the registered keeper of the eligible vehicle to be scrapped

This applies to VW Caddy, VW Transporter, VW Crafter.
